Reading is Magic Festival: 26th - 30th September 2022

We are very excited to be talking part in the ‘Reading is Magic festival’ during the week of 26th – 30th September 2022.

We have joined this event to develop our love of reading and to widen our exposure to new authors and different genres of books.

The festival theme is ‘Every child has the right to….’, here is Cressida Cowell’s interpretation of this:

During the week each class will be watching and responding to online workshops featuring a variety of authors, poets and illustrators.

In school, we will celebrate children’s reading achievements and will display their excellent work.

Recently you were sent a suggested booklist for your child’s age group; this is a really good list to expose your child to different books. You can also find these lists on our website in our 'Virtual Library'. During this special week we will be sending home an ‘SJS Magic Reading Challenge’ which we hope will inspire the children to try even more genres of text and hopefully develop their confidence when choosing books to read and share. When the children have completed each stage of the reading challenge they will be awarded a certain amount of house points, when the challenge is complete they will receive a certificate and a prize. This challenge will run longer than the week- it will finish at half-term.

Events - National Poetry Day

In the coming weeks we also have ‘National Poetry Day’- 6th October, therefore there will be an additional focus on poetry in preparation for this.
