HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

As I mentioned in last week's news, it was lovely to welcome families into school for the jubilee. It started the half term on a big positive. We've put a few photos in the online galleries from the Year 3/4 events and will be adding the Year 5/6 soon.

This week the children in Year 4 have taken the National Multiplication test. It was the first time we have had a year group take the test. We were impressed with their attitude and concentration,

The heat has got to most of us in the last 48 hours!  As we continue through the half term, please remember to make sure your child has sun cream applied when necessary and your child has a sun hat/cap and water bottle in school.

A letter was emailed yesterday regarding Sports Day. Please do get in touch if you have any queries. We felt the year group events went really well during covid and decided we wouldn't return to a whole school morning, but instead we'd have an upper and lower school event.

Year 6 go on their residential next week. They are staying at Hilltop in Sheringham and we look forward to seeing how they get on over the 3 days. Our residential trip used to be in the autumn of Year 5 but due to covid has now ended up in the summer of Year 6. I'm pleased the Year 6 children will get to experience a residential with the junior school and I hope they have a fabulous time!

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Year 2/5 Buddies

Next week, the Year 2 children will be visiting us to meet their Year 5 Buddies and to spend time in our school. We look forward to welcoming the children and I know the Year 5 children are excited about meeting them.

Classes for next year

We are hoping to do a little more transition than normal over the last few weeks of term. We want the children to feel settled and ready for September before the summer break. Classes will be announced on Friday 1st July.

PE Kit/Uniform

We have noticed that a number of children have been wearing PE kit and uniform that doesn't follow the school policy. We appreciate there maybe the odd time this could happen but would ask all families to follow the policy, particularly for PE, so we can continue to have the rule that the children come to school in PE kit.

PE Kit

Plain navy or white t-shirt, blue or black shorts and a plain blue or black tracksuit in the colder months.

Changes to the School Day

To fall in line with the new government directive of 32.5 hours a week, we will be tweaking the start of the day by 5 minutes in September. The first buzzer will go at 8:40am with the second buzzer going at 8:45am. The school day will be from 8:45am - 3:15pm. Most children are in school for 8:45am at the moment, so this change shouldn't have much of an effect on families and will give us more time for the first lesson of the day.

Please do get in touch with the school office if you'd like to discuss this further.

Mental Health Ambassadors

We are creating some new roles in each year group from September for Mental Health Ambassadors. These children will help the leadership team to promote good mental health across the school by promoting it in assemblies, in class and on newsletters. Mr Walton will be asking children to put their names forward for the opportunity in the next week or so and will be choosing children from across the school.

Day of Welcome

Today has been a day of Welcome in School. A day to celebrate that our community welcomes refugees and asylum seekers and is a wonderful place to be! We've joined many schools across different parts of the UK to recognise the importance of welcoming people into our communities.

Many children have come in yellow and green to mark the day and the children watched a special online webinar with loved children’s author and poet, Michael Rosen. He shared his personal connections and reflections on the topics of migration and displacement.

Wellness Wednesday - Healthy Eating

Every Wednesday for the rest of the term, the eco-team are encouraging everyone to have a healthy snack. This could be a piece of fruit, a portion of vegetables or a healthy snack bar. This is only encouragement and not a school rule but we hope that the children will support the eco-team and at the same time enjoy eating their healthy snack and being healthy.  We'll be collecting responses from some of the children about their choices and healthy eating.

Year 4 Catapaults!

Year 4 have been busy finding out about how catapults work. The have talked about what makes an effective catapult and have used this to create their very own wonderful designs. Today, they tested their catapults outside on the playground. After predicting how far their catapult would launch their cargo it was ready to put them in to action. Some of them sent their paper balls a long way - one or two even hit Ms Clark and Mrs Lewis!

"I enjoyed being able to talk through my design with my friends"  Jack

"I liked being able to make mistakes and learn from them to make my catapult even better"  Amy

"I liked designing and making it out of lollipop sticks and then being able to use it on the playground." Olly

Sprowsto has arrived!

The GoGoDinosuar trail is almost here and our friends at Sonkai Jewellers in the Royal Arcade have a special visitor staying with them all summer. Sprowsto is now settled in the window at Sonkai, eager to meet with anyone who dares to enter! Be sure to go and visit as part of the fabulous GoGoDiscover county wide trail which starts on Monday 27th June.
