HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE.

Our latest 8 week improvement plan is coming to a close but has been a very worthwhile plan which has seen our new spelling scheme introduced, a renewed emphasis on Accelerated Reader and a targeted look at phonics sessions for children who need the support. We will keep reviewing our provision in the next few months to see how reading and spelling is going and to analyse the impact of some of the changes made.

I spent an afternoon this week chatting to some children about RSE lessons and the school behaviour policy. Taking time out to hear the pupil voice is so important, and we always get valuable feedback with mature and interesting conversations. It is one of the best parts of my job to make time to talk to the children and to find out what they have been up to.

Please find details below of our Jubilee day celebrations in school. We hope many of you will be able to join us.

The summer term is filling up fast! The Jubilee and family events will be lovely opportunities for parents to get into school to share time and experiences. We will also be having an upper school and lower school Sports Day with dates to be confirmed shortly.

I hope you have a pleasant Bank Holiday weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Summer weather

We will soon be entering a period of hotter weather (hopefully!) so it's always good to give a timely reminder of making sure the children have a water bottle in school and a sun hat or cap. Sun cream can be brought into school (please label) if needed.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

The year 4 children will soon be taking a times-tables test alongside all year 4 children in the country. This will be the first time all schools will have taken the test. Please see the following page on our website for further information: Year 4 Multiplication Check

Year 4 trip to Castle Museum

Last Thursday, Year 4 went on a school trip! The day started well with a lovely double Decker coach! We happily went up the stairs to the top of the bus. In the blink of an eye, we had arrived at Norwich Castle. We went to the lecture theatre and it was really interesting. Then we made torcs. After that, we were trained for the Roman army!

After lunch, we had a feast then we looked at how Roman houses were built. Then I fell asleep on the way back to school!

When we got there, we had to walk up a big alley. As soon as we got into the castle, we went into a room like a theatre. We watched videos and made a torc out of tissue and foil. Then we trained to be soldiers.

After lunch, we chanted Boudica around a fire and then we acted out Iceni jobs. My group were 'spear fishing'. Then we identified Roman objects and put them into categories.

It was a really fun trip. I hope we do it again in the future sometime.

A gallery of photos will be added to the school website and app in the next week or so, so please look out for them.

Anglia News stars!

To celebrate 10 years of the 'Daily Mile' the Anglia News cameras turned up at school yesterday. 10 children from each year group were selected to take part in the special 'Daily mile' and some children made it on to Anglia news last night. The news crew enjoyed their visit, so hopefully we can welcome them back again soon! You can see it here - we appear at about 19 minutes in.

Norwich School Writing Project

Robyn, Myrtle, Darcy and Neve have been involved in a Community Writing Project held at Norwich Lower School. The project is run in conjunction with the National Centre for Writing and has been hosted by author of books Spark, Pop, and Kick, Mitch Johnson. It has been great to see the girls working alongside other children, being so creative and honing their writing skills.

"I really enjoy the writing project because it teaches me how to use my creativity in my stories. It also helps me come up with great ideas and encourages me to write more." Robyn

"I really like the writing project because I get to do creative writing and there are no boundaries on what you have to write. It is really creative and it SUPER fun" Myrtle

"The reason I like the writing project is because I think it is a fun way of helping you to learn different methods of making a story or just helping you to uplevel your words in everyday writing. There is no wrong way to write your story which is really fun because a lot of people like to be creative and make it up!" Darcy

"I really enjoy the sessions as I love to do creative writing with essentially no boundaries so we can just write our hearts out. All of the teachers there are so supportive of our ideas and thoughts. I especially liked the session on character development, i liked how it created a very creative atmosphere of young people working together to build a story." Neve

Jubilee Celebration

To mark the Jubilee in school, we are inviting parents and carers into school for the morning. Each year group is inviting parents in between 10:30-12:45pm to see the displays the children have created; to do an activity with your child; to hear some singing and to have a picnic lunch with them. We hope that you will be able to join us!

Wednesday  8th June - Year 4

Thursday 9th June - Year 5

Family Days

Prior to the last 2 years, one of the best parts of the summer term was to have all our families in for a week of activities. This year, we are changing things slightly and having a 'family day' for every year group. Dates will be sent out shortly along with the sign-up emails for the various activities.
