Dear Parents & Carers

We've had a good week in school to finish the half term.

The children enjoyed the bake sale yesterday and queued fantastically awaiting their turn to purchase cakes. We had so many cakes to sell, so break-time had to be extended somewhat! On behalf of Mr Arthur and the F1 team organising the event, I'd like to say a huge thank you for the support. It was a brilliant event. The year 6 pupils involved in the event were fantastic; serving the children for around half an hour and helping them to purchase the cakes they wanted.

I was delighted to hear of the success of our Year 6 football team in the 7-a-side tournament this week. Well done to all the boys for reaching the final and for representing the school so well.

We hope the children really enjoyed our first 'Curriculum Day' of the year last week, when they took part in many different activities – all focussed on the topic of 'climate'. At the end of the day, we had a sharing assembly, and it was lovely to hear the children's views and ideas, as well as seeing some of their wonderful art work.

We hope the children enjoyed the Halloween Disco last week and our thanks to the office team for organising it. The music and games were enjoyed by everyone and it was lovely to hear comments about how polite the children had been when taking part in some of the events.

It has been a busy half term and I'm sure the children are ready for a rest. I hope everyone has a good week off.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Climate Day

Our first topic for our curriculum days this year was 'climate'. The day was based around the following ideas:

- Discover - Climate scientists

- Imagine - Climate Hope Art

- Solve - Energy Engineers

- Act - Climate Changemakers

The children moved around the classes, being taught by different teachers and developed their science, art, literacy, computing and geographical skills across the day.

At the end of the day, we had a sharing assembly, and it was lovely to hear the children's ideas about the future, as well as seeing some of their lovely art work.

Year 6 Football Team - Jack Ramm tournament

Year 6 Boys Shine at the Jack Ramm Football Tournament.

The Year 6 boys had a fantastic afternoon competing in the Jack Ramm seven-a-side football tournament. After four league games, with one win, one loss and two draws, the boys did enough to qualify for the semi-finals.

They showed great determination and teamwork in a thrilling semi-final against Falcon Junior School, securing a brilliant 2–1 victory to book their place in the final! There, they faced a very strong Queen’s Hill Primary School side and, despite their best efforts, were beaten 5–1.

Reaching the final was an incredible achievement, as Sprowston has not reached this stage of the tournament for many years. Throughout the competition, the boys demonstrated fantastic resilience, determination and team spirit, and they should all be extremely proud of themselves.

A special mention goes to our Player of the Tournament, Theo A.M., who was outstanding in goal. He made countless saves and showed tremendous bravery throughout the day.

Well done to all the boys for their hard work and efforts. You represented the school brilliantly! A big thank you also goes to all the parents who came along to support the team. Your encouragement was greatly appreciated.

A spooktacular Great Sprowston Bake Off!

What a fantastic day we had yesterday at our Great Sprowston Halloween Bake Off! We were blown away by the amazing bakes brought in by our pupils and families. From spooky sweet treats to savoury creations, the entries looked incredible - and tasted delicious too!

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, helped out and supported the event. Your generosity, enthusiasm and support made the event a memorable success and will help our STEM Racing teams as they prepare for the year ahead!

Our STEM Racing teams did a brilliant job organising the Bake Off. They welcomed the bakers and their creations, helped everything run smoothly and brought plenty of Halloween spirit to the day. We’re so proud of the effort they put in.

We’d also like to thank our VIP judges - Mrs Magee, Mrs Ellis, Mrs Aldous and Mr Bird - for taking on the difficult task of judging all the wonderful entries.

Well done to our prize winners.

Best overall bakes: Alexa and Issy

Star Bakers: Leo and Willow

Highly Commended: Aurora, Darcey, Liam, Cooper and Huxley, Ivy-Rose and Arlo, WIlliam and Mrs Blazer.

If you are interested in sponsoring the STEM Racing teams, please get in touch with the school office who will be able to help.

Exciting news: we’re partnering with a school in India!

Our Year 5 and 6 children will be working with pupils from Divine English School in Karnataka, India, as part of the British Council’s Learning Sectors programme.

We’re excited to get to know our new partner school, share ideas and learn from one another. We’ll be joining schools from Salhouse, Hickling and Wroxham in this international partnership, supported by the British Council and Formula 1.

We’re looking forward to seeing the connections the children make and what they discover together!

The Halloween Disco was a huge hit and the children enjoyed the games and activities organised for them. The school was decorated ready for the occasion and the whole evening was a lovely, spooky affair!

Social Media

As a school we were early users of social media to promote school events and to showcase everything going on. In recent times, we have stopped using these channels as much, but we are now planning to use them again to celebrate school life at SJS.

Please fill in the quick questionnaire regarding photo permission if you haven't already done so.

We have started posting on Instagram. You can find us at: sjs19_37

Children In Need

We are looking forward to supporting Children In Need once again on November 13th.

This year's Children In Need theme is 'challenge yourself' and we will have a number of challenges for the children to have a go at during lunchtime.

It will be a non-uniform day. We will be encouraging the children to wear clothes and footwear appropriate for taking part in some challenges outside. We will be collecting £1 voluntary donations for non-uniform and asking for small change (20p) each for the challenges with prizes being awarded.

Safeguarding at Sprowston Junior

At Sprowston Junior School we are committed to supporting all of our children to do well. We will do everything we can to ensure our children are safeguarded and protected from harm. If you have any concerns about a child at our school and feel they could be a victim of abuse or are at risk, please report your worries immediately to one of our designated staff (DSLs). DSLs can be identified by their green lanyards.
