Friday 6th March, 2026

Dear Parents & Carers

It's the end of a busy and enjoyable week in school. With Book Week coinciding with two trips out, there has been plenty of interesting and different activities for the children to experience.

Well done to all Year 3, 4 & 5 for their behaviour on the trips this week. I've enjoyed hearing all about the trips, and I'm pleased to hear they all represented the school brilliantly. We've been lucky with such a super week of weather too!

Year 6 have also enjoyed a busy week and enjoyed a trip to the Sprowston Library and the visit from Norwich City, with many showing off their writing skills and presenting well in front of the class.

Looking ahead, we've got a number of things happening in the next 3 weeks as we head towards Easter. The Friends of school have a Mother's Day shop this Tuesday, followed by a disco on Thursday 19th. We also have two competitions running in school: Mr Reeds' science competition and the return of Sprowston's Got Talent. Furthermore, we have Comic Relief on Friday 20th March. This is a non-uniform day. A further email about this will be sent out next week.

As we move towards Easter, we hope to see our new 'SHIP' building finished. We are excited to see the finished building and hope it won't be too long after Easter that the playground will all be open again for the children to enjoy again. We will then set about the task of creating our new garden area which I'm sure the children will enjoy helping to create.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Book Week!

We hope the children have enjoyed taking part in the different challenges this week, and it has been a wonderful day enjoying dressing up as book characters or words.

The children were very determined to match the favourite books displayed around school to the correct staff member and there was a lot of interrogation of staff!  Well done to all those who were able to work them out.

We've seen some fantastic efforts in the other challenges too and some super work in class based activities.

You'll see some fantastic costumes below. well done to the winners and to everyone for making today a very enjoyable one in school. Our thanks to Mrs Wills for organising the week.

Year 3/4 visit to Norwich Castle

Yesterday, Year 3/4 enjoyed a trip to the Castle Museum to learn about the Ancient Egyptians. It was lovely to hear that the children had really enjoyed the day and the activities:

Liyana:

Our trip to Norwich Castle.

First at the castle we sat on some benches, then we got told to go to an amazing cinema. We sat down and were made to vote about what we thought. Next, we saw some real Ancient Egyptian artefacts, they were so cool.

Imani:

Firstly we put our bags and coats down. After that, we went into  this amazing cinema. We learnt about the Ancient Egyptians and how they: plant crops, make bread and pick fruits. We also made a necklace and even looked at mummifying and mummified objects, including cats!

Salhouse visit to Sprowston Library

To celebrate World Book Day, Salhouse visited Sprowston Library to meet the librarians, have a look round and take out some books to read at home. With the help of the librarians, everyone in Salhouse now has a library card which they used to borrow a book. They also got the chance to hear stories and look at the wonderful collection of books available to borrow.

A big thank you to everyone at Sprowston Library for hosting Salhouse this week.

Salhouse's motivational speeches

Yesterday, Salhouse was visited by Matt Wells the education manager for NCFC, he brought some of the under 18 NCFC players to listen to our writing. He had set us the challenge of writing a story which included a motivational speech set in a sporting setting. Some of the children were really brave and read theirs to the guys who were really impressed with the quality of their writing. Well done Salhouse.

Year 6 STEM Racing fundraising stalls

To help support their friends who have qualified for the STEM Racing National Finals at the end of this month, Salhouse hosted fundraising stalls. The damp weather didn't dampen the spirits and while the boys who had planned to hold a penalty shoot-out and basketball competition, they put their thinking hats on and created new stalls that could be held inside. As the rain stopped, everyone moved outside and the stalls were packed.

Thanks to everyone who helped with stalls, donated prizes, sent in bakes and gave their children money to spend on the stalls. We were blown away by the support and raised over £150!

Striking Starlight and Lapping Lizards are busy making final preparations for Nationals.

If you would like to make a donation to support the teams, please contact the school office or Mr Arthur: deputy@sprowstonjunior.nofolk.sch.uk
