Friday 17th October, 2025

Dear Parents & Carers

I think one of the highlights for the children this week was having the coach in school from Norwich City Community Sports. The children enjoyed the various football activities and the opportunity for all to participate in the enjoyable drills.

As we nearly reach half term, the children are settled into their routines and it is time to ask you to come in to see the teachers and to see how your child is getting on. The email with information for parents' evening will be sent out to you on Monday and the booking system will go live on Tuesday morning. The dates of the parents' evening can be seen below.

This week coming we have the bake off excitement on Friday which we are looking forward to. I must try and get myself onto the judging committee to taste all the wonderful entries!

Well done to the sporting teams for all their efforts over the past two weeks. I enjoyed popping out to see the cross country team running and I'm always delighted to see the effort and commitment.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Olly Day Road Safety Show

Last week, children in years 3/4 enjoyed a fun and unforgettable visit from Olly Day, who brought his Road Safety Show to school. Using a brilliant mix of magic, comedy, and interactive learning, Olly taught the children some very important safety messages to help keep them safe on and around the roads.

Through clever tricks and lively demonstrations, we learned to “stop, look, and listen” before crossing the road, to “be bright at night” by wearing reflective clothing, and to always wear a helmet when cycling and a seat belt in the car.

Funded by Norfolk County Council, Olly’s shows combine “learning with laughter” – ensuring that these vital messages stick in children’s minds long after the magic show ends. The visit was a wonderful way to remind everyone how small actions can make a big difference in staying safe on the roads.

Norwich City Community Sports

Norwich City Community Sports came into school on Wednesday and worked with all classes, leading enjoyable sessions of football activities and games. The children really enjoyed the session with the coach:

Kylo -  'It was a lot of fun and I liked all the games we did.'

Arlo -'The way it was all sorted out, everyone playing in their own ability groups was great.'

Hunter - 'I thought it was fun and it was all done fairly.'

Theo - 'He did lots of good drills and got everyone involved.'

Football team Report

The Year 6 football team have now played 3 matches, winning two of them and losing the third. Their second match was a much closer encounter with White Woman Lane to the previous 7-1 win. The boys won 2-1, a superb goal and assist from Denny meant he was awarded Player of the Match.

This week we faced a very strong Old Catton Junior side, injuries to Toby and Julian meant we weren’t at full strength. All the boys gave all their effort but unfortunately eventually losing 2-0. The stand out performance earning himself Player of the Match came from George playing centre back, some great tackling and lots of communication, well done! Our final fixture this season comes on Monday away to Falcon.

Cross Country Season Kicks Off at Sprowston Junior School

Last week saw the start of the cross country season, with our first race taking place at Sprowston Rec. Our fantastic team of runners — Kayla, Ivy, Evie, Ariel, Riley, Addy, Grace, Charlie, Toby, Julian, Wanye, Sam, Jacob, Lewis, Nicholas, Giovi, and Jack — all did an amazing job representing the school.

Everyone showed brilliant determination, team spirit, and enthusiasm, tackling the course with smiles and great effort from start to finish. It was wonderful to see the children cheering each other on and giving their best throughout the race.

We’re very proud of all our runners and can’t wait to see how the team progresses through the rest of the season! The next race will be at Falcon Junior on Fri 7th November.

The Great Sprowston Bake Off! (Friday 24th October)

A remonder that Salhouse will be hosting a Halloween-themed Great Sprowston Bake Off on Friday 24th Oct.

Snacks

We have been talking to the children about the dropping of litter in the playground and using the bins provided. Please can we remind all families that we encourage a healthy snack at playtime. We would appreciate less plastic waste coming into school as it sometimes blows out of the bins, as well as being dropped on the floor.

Please do not send sweets and chocolate bars into school as snacks. We do allow wafer biscuit bars with chocolate.

We are pleased that the Clubhouse is now open and the feedback from the children has been very positive.

If you would like to use the Clubhouse, please get in touch with the school office and fill in a booking form. The office will also be able to answer any further questions you may have.

We can take short term bookings, as well as longer term bookings. Prices are broken down with different payment options after school, depending on the length of the session.

Our musician in residence programme is going really well and I hope the children are really enjoying their music lessons and assemblies. Mrs Smith has been with us this half term and we look forward to seeing Mr Peat after half term too.

Here's some photos of a Year 3/4 lesson - they were playing the drums and making an impressive sound together!

Mrs Smith also runs the Choir after school on Thursdays. The choir will be entering the Norfolk Music Festival. If we have any more budding singers, please come along and join the choir. Speak to the office if you are interested.
