Friday 19th September, 2025

Dear Parents & Carers

We are now fully settled back into school routines and I hope your child is settling well in their new classroom.

For myself and the office team, it's been a busy week setting up the wrap-around care which starts next Wednesday. We hope this service will be a success for Sprowston Junior & Infant families and look forward to seeing it grow as the weeks and months go past.

Next Friday at 9am (welcome from the playground at 8:45am) we have our Macmillan coffee morning and invite all, if you have the time, to come and have a Friday coffee and a chat in school. After the coffee morning, at 10am, we will hold our Friends' AGM. All are welcome. The Friends do an amazing job raising thousands of pounds each year for the school.

We have news of an exciting author visit below. We look forward to welcoming P G Bell into school in October. We also have had a visit from the Olly Day Road Show, teaching the children all about Road Safety in an interactive way.

We're sorry for all the issues everyone is having with Marvellous Me. The company do assure us that they hope normal service will resume very shortly.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Mr BIrd is back!

After spending the summer as part of the hugely successful Break Go Go Safari trail, Mr Bird (our Go Go giraffe) is back at Sprowston Junior. Our new Year 6 pupil ambassadors collected him from Break last week and made sure he was returned safely.

He is now in pride of place by the school office, so if you didn't get a chance to see him over the summer why not pop in for a look.

A big thank you again to the Friends of Sprowston Junior for funding the project again. We are already looking forward to the next Go Go Adventure!

The Great Sprowston Bake Off! (Friday 24th October)

Do you enjoy baking?

Have you got what it takes to be Sprowston’s top baker?

Then let us introduce the Great Sprowston Bake Off!

Salhouse will be hosting a Halloween-themed Great Sprowston Bake Off on Friday 24th Oct.

Entries are open to any member of the Sprowston Junior School community as we try to find the best sweet and the best savoury bakers.

To enter, simply bring your bake (and the Bake Off entry form) to school on the morning of Friday 24th Oct and deliver it to the school hall. Our VIP judges will peruse the bakes and the winners will be announced in a special celebration assembly that morning.

All bakes will be for sale during the day and after school on the same day, with some of the funds raised going towards Salhouse trips this term.

Please note, all entries must be nut-free.

Will you be crowned this year’s Great Sprowston Bake Off Champion?

Best-selling Author visit - P.G Bell (Wednesday 1st October)

Hot off the launch of his new book 'The Big Bad Wolf Murder', we will be welcoming author P.G Bell to school on Wednesday 1st October.

Children will get the chance to hear extracts from the exciting new book, find out the inspiration behind the story and discover what it's like to be a full-time author.

There will be books for sale on the day for those who would like to find out more about the fairytale-inspired murder mystery - and you will even get a chance to get your copy signed!

School Grounds

Car Park

Only staff cars are allowed in the car park at the moment, unless specific permission has been given. The car park area is extremely busy with cars and families walking through, and we need to keep this area as safe as possible.

Playground

Please can you help us to ensure all bikes and scooters are walked in the playground. We also ask for no ball games before and after school. Dogs should be kept outside the playground or at the boundary. Thank you for your help.

Parking

We have been made aware of some cars blocking drive-ways when dropping off or picking up. Please can we ask that you park considerately at all times.

Sprowston Clubhouse will be opening its doors on Wednesday 24th September. We are pleased to tell you that we have employed Rose Clark as our new Wrap Around Care manager. Rose will be running both the before school and after school clubs. We've also employed Louise Beckett who will be working alongside Rose at the after-school club. Both Rose and Louise are both experienced at working with children in different educational settings.

At the moment, we are invoicing parents half-termly for clubhouse bookings. If you believe you have booked for the Clubhouse and haven't heard from us, please get in touch with the office.

For any new bookings or any further enquiries, please contact the school office.

Marvellous Me

We are aware that some parents/carers are still not able to access Marvellous Me. We have informed Marvellous Me, and they are working to rectify the issues. They hope to have things resolved very soon.

School News App

This app takes its information from the school website so it is a good place to catch up on the latest newsletter or to check a date. Simply download the app and search for Sprowston Junior.

Ship Build Update

Our Horsa block is no more! We are sad to see a piece of history disappear but we are excited to see the progress and look forward to seeing the area develop over the next few months.

The competition is still open to design a poster about a construction site; it could be about the safety aspect or a picture of a site. It can be on A3 or A4 paper. The winners will receive book tokens.
