Friday 4th July, 2025

Dear Parents & Carers

It's the end of a busy week, and we are finishing with our Friends' BBQ tonight. Please do come and support if you have the time available.

We've had two very good Sports Days this week which the children really enjoyed. The children put a lot of effort into all the events, and we had some great races to finish both mornings. Such a shame the weather beat us in the end on Wednesday morning, but we were pleased to get all the races in, and thank you to everyone for being so flexible. It was nice to welcome many of you inside for lunch.

The pupils' reports will be going home this coming Wednesday, so please look out for them. We will also be having a drop-in session for you to speak to the current class teacher or your child's next class teacher after-school on Wednesday 16th July (please see dates).

Next Friday, the children in Years 3 & 4 will meet their new teachers. They will spend the morning with them before returning to their current classes at lunch time.

Next week sees our Year 6 children spending time at their respective high schools as well. I'm sure they'll enjoy spending time finding out about the exciting changes ahead, and we look forward to hearing about how it went.

At the end of term, we will be saying goodbye to two midday supervisors. Mrs Ellis has been at the school for many years as a midday supervisor and also working in the school office. She has been a fantastic member of the team during the time she's been with us. She has decided it is time to move on, and we wish her all the very best for the future. Mrs Marples has been with us this year, and we thank her for all her hard work. We've enjoyed working with her and we wish her all the very best.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Year 2/3 Sports Morning

On Tuesday our Year 3's welcomed the new Year 2s to school for a morning of sports. It was great to see everyone enjoying the activities and getting to know each before the new school year in September.

Visit to St Mary and St Margaret's church

Last week years 3/4 visited St Mary and St Margaret's church to find out more about its history and the important role it plays in the local community. Reverend Dean welcomed the children and showed them round the church before answering some questions.

Did you know that part of St Mary and St Margaret's church is over 800 years old?

Yr 3/4 enjoyed a Syrian dance workshop linked to a book studied this year 'Boy at the back of the class'.

The children loved it and their dance moves were excellent.

Year 5 Buddy Morning

Last week Salhouse spent the morning with their new Year 2 buddies. They spent the morning showing them round the school and taking part in some activities. They spent some time in the library together, logging on and sharing how we use Chromebooks and Google Classroom, finding out about each other during an art activity and hunting for clues in our playground scavenger hunt. We're looking forward to seeing what great buddy Salhouse will be when they're in Year 6.

Year 5 Mexican dancing

A flash of vibrant colour filled the afternoon last Thursday as Salhouse donned masks and face paint to take part in their Mexican dance workshop. Everyone had a great time discovering more about Mexico and experimenting with movement to the music. It was brilliant to see the teamwork and creativity from everyone.

Year 6 at the Norfolk Show

On Thursday 26th June, Year 6 visited the Royal Norfolk Show. It was a long, hot day, but it didn't deter the children having a great time. While they were there, everyone enjoyed looking at the vehicles on display, visiting the various stalls/stands to discover more, collecting plenty of freebies (some children came back covered head-to-toe in stickers) and, of course, watching the pig racing.

Year 6 at Hilltop - part two!

Here are a few more photos from the Year 6 trip to Hilltop. It was a fantastic few days and I'm sure the children will remember the trip for many years to come.

We have been working hard on our spelling, phonics and maths and we are learning about money!

The SHIP shop has been open and the children have been practicing our money skills.

We have been very busy with visitors and have enjoyed welcoming some of our new children this week.

In this week's heat, we put up a tent for extra shade and have cooled our feet in buckets of water and been enjoying some ice cream.

In PE we have been practicing our throwing and catching skills.

A week of sports

Year 2/3 sports

Well done to all the Year 2s and Year 3s for their efforts on Monday for their mini-sports day event. All the children had a great time and showed some resilience and determination with all the activities they did. Also, a big well done and thank you to the Year 6 helpers who led each group, all were amazing leaders and helped make the event run seamlessly!

Sports Days

What a wonderful two days we have had for our sports days - well done to ALL the children for all their hard work, teamwork, resilience and determination! Amazing effort has been shown  and lots of fun and enjoyment had over both (wet and sunny) days. Also, well done to all parents/carers/friends who took part, the children loved seeing friends and family take part too. Lastly, congratulations to the teachers who managed to beat a very competitive group of parents in the sponge challenge - rematch next year!

Mr Bird goes on Safari!

This summer, Norwich and Norfolk is going wild! For ten weeks starting from 23 June, GoGoSafari will fill the streets with a spectacular herd of gorillas, rhinos, giraffes, lions, and elephants – all waiting to be discovered by you!

These 51 sculptures are joined by over 60 Mini Gs – adorable little giraffes brought to life by the creativity of local schools and community groups. You’ll find them hiding inside venues across the city!

And it’s all for a great cause - raising awareness and vital funds for young people in, around and leaving care. (source: break-charity.org)

And our very own Mr Bird is part of the celebrations! Our 'Mr Bird' giraffe that was designed to mark our caretakers retirement, is located in pride of place in the window of Thorns DIY, Exchange Street. Thorns DIY have posted a short video on their social media - click here to watch the video.

Click here for more information on the Go Go Safari this summer; and if you manage to see 'Mr Bird' send a picture in to school of you with him.

We'd love to have pictures taken with Mr Bird for an in school display. Please can you take a photo and email the photo to office@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk.

We hope to have a whole board full of photos!

Sun Safe Schools

Sun Safe Schools is a free national accreditation program that provides primary schools with resources to protect children from UV rays and prevent skin cancer. It aligns with the new PSHE curriculum, which mandates education on safe sun exposure and reducing sun damage, including skin cancer. The program, developed by SKCIN, a skin cancer awareness charity, offers guidance on creating sun safety policies, communicating with parents, and implementing sun safety education. (source: google)

We feel that sun safety is important and have started working towards gaining Sun Safe Schools accreditation. As part of this, you will be receiving a letter explaining the process and giving some tips on how to stay 'sun safe' as well as some information about sun safety and skin cancer.
