Friday 19th June, 2025

Dear Parents & Carers

Today has been one of the oddest days I think I've had at Sprowston Junior! With only Year 3 and the SHIP in school, it has certainly been a different day to normal. I'm sure Year 4, 5 and 6 will have had a brilliant Friday, whether at Sprowston Academy or enjoying the last few hours at Hilltop. Year 3 and the SHIP have enjoyed having the school to themselves!

The feedback from the staff at Hilltop is that the children have been brilliant and have received praise from our staff and the Hilltop staff which is wonderful to hear. I hope it is a trip they remember for many years to come. A big thanks to all the staff for all their hard work (and late nights!) over the past few days.

We will be finalising classes for next year very soon and will make sure all the children know who their new teacher is as soon as we can. They will visit their new teacher on Thursday 10th July (unless they are staying with the same teacher!).

A reminder to please fill in the online form if you'd like your child to stay with you for lunch after the sports mornings in July.

Next week we have many children participating in City Sports on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We wish all our competitors well, and we hope they really enjoy competing for the school and the athletics.

I hope you are able to make the most of some of the warm weekend ahead. Keeping cool is going to be on all our agendas! Have a lovely one.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Planning Permission - SHIP Building

You may have seen in the local newspaper that we have finally got planning permission for the new building. To minimise disruption, the work will be starting at the end of term, so we will hopefully see plenty of progress when we return in September. You can see an artist's picture of the new building below.

Tennis Competition - Year 4

Well done to all the Year 4s who took part in the tennis competition/festival this week at Thorpe St Andrew High School. All children represented the school in a fantastic way, well done! Also, well done to the four children (George, Theo, Ivy and Addy) were involved in the competition element coming 3rd out of 8 teams who entered!

Year 6 at Hilltop

Year 6 have been away at Hilltop this week and have had a fantastic time again this year. The weather has been brilliant and everyone has enjoyed the sunshine while they explored the site.

They have had three action packed days during which they have had the chance to challenge themselves with activities including: archery, the big zipper (a 130ft zip wire), air jump, an assault course, the tree top trail and bush craft.

As you’d expect, the behaviour was brilliant, with Hilltop staff commenting on the children’s attitude and teamwork throughout the stay.

This year’s Year 6 took the daily room inspections to another level with singing/dancing performances, teacher ‘bribes’ (sweets handed out on entry to the room), spick and span rooms and even a shadow puppet show!

Here are some photos of the trip. We'll add some more in the next newsletter.

Year 5 Cooking

Our topic this term is 'Food from around the world'. So far we have cooked garlic flatbreads and bombay potatoes. The children have been fantastic and coped really well in the hot kitchen! Next week we are cooking chinese noodles.

SHIP News

We have been finishing our Geography topic on Europe and we have been learning about the Water Cycle.

We have also had lots of assessments, and we are very proud of how much progress our children are making. Well done team SHIP! The children have been wonderful at welcoming some of the new children and showing them how we enjoy our sensory areas with slime, and how we work on our fine motor skills with threading.  We have been working on improving our fractions, and we have been working hard on our spellings.

We are led by the learning of the children and one child asked to learn French, so we have even been brushing up on our language skills. Tres Bien!

Year 3 have been enjoying their own 'sports event' this morning, designing their own playground games and teaching each other how to play them. They also enjoyed a delicious ice lolly!
