Summer 2025

We hope you have had an enjoyable and restful Easter break. It doesn’t seem possible that we are already in the Summer Term; the children’s final term at Sprowston Junior School. With a range of activities planned such as the Year 6 End of Year Production, Hilltop residential and a Royal Norfolk Show Visit, this will be an extremely busy, but also most enjoyable, last few weeks.

SATs

The children have been working incredibly hard all year and we know that they will continue to show this positive attitude to learning over the next few days leading up to SATs. Remember: every lesson, every intervention group and every piece of homework counts.

SATs week will take place on the week of 12Th May 2025.

Monday 12th May – English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (2 papers).

Tuesday 13th May - English Reading.

Wednesday 14th May – Maths Paper 1 - Arithmetic. Maths Paper 2 - Reasoning.

Thursday 11th May – Maths Paper 3 – Reasoning.

We aim to make SATs week as relaxed as possible. Plenty of sleep, a good breakfast and arriving at school on time will really benefit the children. We will also be welcoming children into school from 8:30am on SATS days to help with any worries or just to give them a little time to relax before the test. There may also be some delicious snacks available! If you have any worries or queries regarding SATs, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Year 6 team.

Transition to High School

With only a term left of junior school, we will be continuing to prepare the children for their move to high school. The children will get the chance to visit their new high schools, and we will meet with staff from the different high schools to ensure a smooth transition. For some children (and parents!) this can be a worrying time, so please contact us, if you have any concerns.

Summer Term Curriculum Overview:

Literacy -  We will complete our work on the Suffragettes and then we will be having a look at ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to coincide with our end of year production.

Maths - Problem solving challenges and investigations

Science – Electricity and Animals including humans

History – We will complete our work on World War Two and then have a look at the Windrush Generation.

RE – Judaism (to coincide with our World War Two project) and Humanism

Art – Street Art including Banksy

PE – Athletics, Tennis, Cricket and Tri-golf

Wicked

Our year 6 trip to Wicked is getting closer!

On Wednesday 21st May, we will be leaving school at 6am in order to get to our 10:30am workshop at the famous Pineapple Dance Studio in Covent Garden. Once we have completed our workshop we will jump back on the coach and head over to the Apollo Theatre. We will then have a quick lunch in the park outside the theatre (weather permitting) and then make our way to our seats for the 2:30pm performance of ‘Wicked’. The show should end around 5pm and the coach will be waiting outside the theatre to bring us back to school, aiming to arrive back at 9:30pm.

Children will need to wear full school uniform for the trip, but can wear trainers instead of school shoes as we will be taking part in a physical workshop. Children will need to bring a packed lunch plus dinner with them (and enough snacks to last them all day). They do not need to bring sweets for the theatre as we will provide them with a little treat in the interval.
