Dear Parents & Carers

I had the opportunity to visit all classes this week as part of our work to improve writing standards across the school. It was lovely to see the engagement of the children and some excellent responses to the questioning across the year groups. We have been focusing on improving all aspects of writing and it is clear to see handwriting has improved in many children's books. We will continue to put a focus on writing through to the end of the summer term and celebrate the children's successes.

Thank you for all the donations for Comic Relief today. We talked about the charity in assembly on Tuesday and discussed the smaller charities and places that will benefit from the fund-raising. Every penny does count and the children have a good idea how the money raised today may help others.

You will see below that we now have our finalists for Sprowston's Got Talent. There is always a lot of excitement and enjoyment in taking part in the auditions and the finals event. It is daunting performing in front of 'judges' so a big well done to all the children who took part.

I need to say the best of luck to our F1 teams whom are travelling to Rotherham on Tuesday to take part in the national finals. We look forward to finding out how they get on. They've certainly put a lot of effort and commitment into the project and had a lot of support from their families and the community which is fantastic and much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Mrs Magee

We need to share the news that Mrs Magee has decided to retire from working in education at Easter and will be leaving the school. Mrs Magee has been at the school for the last 18 years and is leaving with many happy memories of so many different children and events she has been part of in that time, both in the role of teaching assistant and pastoral manager. The school has benefitted from her energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the community during this period.

We thank her for all her hard work over the past 18 years and we wish her all the very best for the future.

Before & After School

Recently, we have allowed some ball games before school. Unfortunately, we need to stop this happening as we have had too many balls hitting or nearly hitting others and with the warmer weather, the playground is getting busier too. From Monday, we ask that there are no ball games before or after school.

Previously, we have said scooters can be used in the bottom half of the playground, and we will continue with this. Children should get off their bikes and walk them through to the bike sheds.

Thank you for your help with this.

Comic Relief

The children always enjoy a day of fund-raising and today has been no different. A big thank you to the Year 6 children who were brilliant at organising and running events today.  The games were a big success and the children enjoyed the activities. We have more prizes to give out in Monday's assembly.

Roadworks!

We are unfortunately in the dark regarding why the roadworks haven't yet begun on Recreation Ground Road. If and when we hear any news, we will let you know!

Sprowston's Got Talent Finalists!

The preparations for this year's Sprowston's Got Talent Show got underway last week with auditions in front our Year 6 'judges'. We had a variety of acts again this year and are in for a treat in the finals - to be held at the end of the month.

The finalists are:

Elicia, Betsie, Anais, Riley, Addy, Paige, Amelia and Phoebe - singing and dancing

Martham: Kayla, Alexa, Jonny and Hunter - cheer

Wroxham: Daisy and Courtney - performing magic

Salhouse: Ben and Wanye - performing magic, Kenadee - jokes and riddles

Lily: Sonny - singing

Hickling: Freddie - singing

Judges' Choice: Ethan - performing magic

Well done to everyone who auditioned and big congratulations to the finalists.

Science Fair

It was unfortunate that we had to postpone the Science Fair but the new date is after school on Monday 31st March in the school hall (from 3:15pm).

Girls' Football

The girls travelled to White Woman Lane to play a quarter final cup match. They knew it was going to be a difficult fixture but were ready for the challenge. They put all their efforts into the game and played some good football. The final score was 3-1 to White Woman Lane, with Jessica Cogman scoring our goal. Well done to all the girls who represented the school: Hayleigh, Jessica, Carley, Carissa, Penny, Eliza, Lydia, Scarlett & Layla.

Cross Country Season

It only seems like yesterday that our intrepid cross-country runners were tying their laces, battling the elements and competing at different venues across the city. Well done to everyone who took part in this season's races - you did us proud!

We now turn our attention to the NPSAA City Sports in June. More details of the after school club for those selected to compete at the CIty Sports will be coming out soon, so watch this space.

Attendance

There has been a lot in the news about school attendance recently. Our attendance this year so far is below the national average at 93.8%. This is an area that we need to improve and we will continue to contact families and offer support where attendance is falling.

Did you know? An attendance rate of below 90% is deemed to be persistent absence. Over a school year, this means a child has missed 19 or more days of school.

It is important that we improve our school average attendance as soon as possible, and regular attendance is so important for children's academic progress.  The following NHS guidance is helpful when considering whether to keep a child off school. Is my child too ill for school?
