Dear Parents & Carers

The summer has finally arrived and we've had some gorgeous weather this week. I enjoyed being at City Sports and seeing the children competing and supporting each other over three days of athletics. We were delighted to win the Smaller Schools' trophy and Relay cup - the children deserved it for their efforts over the 3 days of competition.

All of year 5 went to Sprowston Academy today to enjoy sporting activities led by the high school pupils. It is always a good opportunity for the children to enjoy a day of sport in a non-competitive environment.

Still on the theme of sport, we look forward to our Sports Days on Monday and Tuesday. Please fill in the form for taking your child out of school for lunch if you'd like to. The mornings are always an enjoyable part of the yearly calendar.

Later next week we have the school fair at 4:30pm on Friday. On Thursday we are having a non-uniform day. We are asking for donations of items for the summer fair (raffle/tombola prizes) rather than money.

Next Friday, the children's end of year reports will be coming home to you. Please note that the Year 6 reports will be sent home later than this - this is so we can include their Key Stage 2 results in the reports. The date for the Year 6 reports will be confirmed early next week.

We have sent emails home today to let all Year 3 parents know about class teachers from September. Please contact the school office on Monday morning if you have not received an email. Year 5 children and parents will be told on Monday about classes for Year 6 from September.

Have a good weekend

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

City Sports 2024

We were delighted with the performance of the children at City Sports this week.

This started on Monday with some excellent performances in the field events.  Talia won the Year 6 Long Jump and Eliza & Jack came second place in the Year 5 girls and Year 6 boys Long Jump respectively.

The good performances continued into the track finals, with Talia winning the hurdles and Theo finishing third place. Wanye won the Year 4 60m final and the Year 4 boys' relay team (Wanye, Sam, Jack & Julian) finished third place in the final too. The Year 6 boys' relay team also made the final and finished fourth place (Max, Theo, Oliver and Leo)

The team accumulated 46 points. A massive well done to all the team - everyone played their part. We'll have a picture of the team with the trophies in the next newsletter!

Year 6 trip to Hilltop

Last week, Year 6 headed for the woods for an exciting three days at Hilltop. During the trip they got to do a variety of adventurous activities including: riding the big zipper, jumping from up high on air jump, gracefully falling to Earth on power fan, building camp fires and dens in bushcraft, tackling obstacles courses and solving problems as a team. As well all of this, they got to relax in the pool and spend time with friends in the games room. They even got to squeeze in the England match - although several wished they'd stuck to table football!

A big thank you to all the staff who helped again this year.

Year 6 trip to Norfolk Show

Not content with all the excitement of Hilltop, Year 6 visited the Royal Norfolk Show this week to explore the Showground and all it had to offer. Despite the heat, everyone had a great time and returned to school laden with bags of goodies and covered in stickers.

Highlights of the Show this year included: watching the RAF Falcon Parachute display team, the chicken wraps, mock mojitos and yum tums cooked up by the RAF, Sprowston Junior winning the lifeguard challenge (see the latest "trophy" displayed alongside the trophies in the reception!), watching events in the Grand Ring, building a giant speed-stack cup tower and of course the pig racing!

A big thank you to all the parents/carers who joined Year 6 on Wednesday.

Year 3 Celebration D/T Event

Some of the Year 3 children were chosen to attend an engineering celebration event yesterday. The children got to speak to engineers about their build, material used and how it was tested. Each box cart was then tested. The children got time to play with some construction toys and to integrate and talk to the children from other schools. It was a great morning!

Ray and Elicia won the best car design competition - well done to them!

Year 5 cook up some delicious treats!

This term Year 5 have donned their aprons, rolled up their sleeves and channelled their inner Delia. They have been cooking up, and of course sampling, foods from around the world. So far they have made fabulous flatbreads and brilliant Bombay potatoes. We can't wait to see what mouth-watering delight they contour up next time they visit the cookery room.
