Friday 18th April, 2024

I hope everyone had a good Easter and speaking to the children, they certainly enjoyed themselves and spoke enthusiastically about the different things they did over the holiday period.

My assembly this week was about making the most of the feel-good factor that the summer term brings, but it didn't help that it was raining hard outside at the time! The assembly was about having a positive mindset, and we will be sharing examples of 'positivity' we have seen during celebration assemblies this half-term.

This term brings many enjoyable events, and we will be updating you with all the key dates through to July in the next newsletter. Please also see the year group newsletters which have been sent by email today.

I watched the girls' football team in their semi-final on Monday evening, and they were unlucky to lose 2-0 to a good St William's team. The Year 5/6 football team also reached the semi-final of the cup before Easter, losing 2-1 to Falcon Junior in a tight game. Both teams should be proud of their performances and their team effort. Season reports will be in the next newsletter.

I'd like to welcome Mr Cordeaux to our teaching team this summer term. Mr Cordeaux has taken over from Mrs Pearce and will be teaching Ranworth. Mrs Pearce has left the classroom to spend time working on plans for our new specialist hub we are opening in September (see below).

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Trip to see Shrek the musical!

Year 3 and Year 6 had an exciting trip to finish the spring term by visiting Norwich Theatre Royal to watch Shrek. Year 3 had seats downstairs in the stalls whilst Year 6 were upstairs in the circle. We arrived in good time, and we were all seated and ready to watch the performance. The stage set was fantastic and we were all in for a treat!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the performance which ended with a sing-along and everybody up on their feet! The children were excellently behaved and enjoyed the theatre experience.

What we did we all think about it?

Mason: 'I enjoyed the show and I thought it was really funny.'

Elicia: 'I enjoyed the whole show and thought it was great.'

Dexter:  'The singing was excellent and we had very comfy seats. The set and lighting were really good too.'

Francesca: 'I liked the ending because we all got involved in the singing.'

Imogen:  'My favourite part was when donkey was making fun of how Shrek was speaking.'

Specialist Hub of Inclusive Practice (SHIP)

We are pleased to announce that we are opening a specialist hub in September 2024. The SHIP will be in one end of our school building whilst a new permanent building is built over the next 12 months, replacing the old HORSA block.

Mrs Pearce will be teaching the new SHIP class in September and will be working hard over the summer term to put plans into place. The class will be small and will be made up of children from across the key stage age range.

What a fantastic Sprowston's Got Talent final we had just before Easter. All the acts did superbly to perform in front of a packed hall and after each act, we heard from our judges (Mr Reeds, Phoebe, Jacob and Libby).

We had singing, dancing, gymnastics, jokes and even roller skating.

Everyone in school had the chance to vote for their favourite act and the top three acts will get the chance to perform again this half-term.

The top three acts were:

First: Year 6 cheer group

Second: Year 6 Monkeys (jokes)

Third: Beat to the Box (beatbox music from Sam and his crew)

Well done to all the children who took part in the talent show and who auditioned. A special well done to our top three acts.

We look forward to getting another chance to see these acts again soon.

Science Fair & Science Assembly

We hope you enjoyed visiting our science fair before half-term. The Year 6 science ambassadors and the children from the science club really enjoyed putting on the fair and sharing with you their knowledge about science.

Mr Reeds held a fantastic science assembly which involved the finalists in the '1 minute competition' and an egg drop challenge which the children thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with. The whole school watched the '1 minute' finalists and they all were extremely close to a minute with their timing creations. In the end, the Year 4 boys (Lewis, Toby & Julian) were the closest with their water creation on the day. Well done to them!

Well done to all our '1 minute' finalists!
