Maths Matters! (Autumn 2023)

Home | Maths Matters

Welcome to our Maths Matters newsletter. We hope to bring you up to date with all things maths at Sprowston Junior. In this edition we will be meeting our new Maths Champions, finding out about class maths pets and discovering what maths meetings are all about.

MEET OUR MATHS CHAMPIONS:

We know that everyone can ‘do’ maths and our very own Maths Champions are here to help lead the way. They will be responsible for helping organise maths events, working in classes, speaking to parents/carers about maths and making maths a real success across the school.

Let’s meet the team:

Hi, I'm Benjamin. I am proudly a Maths Champion. Maths has been my favourite subject since I was three! My parents have always been a big inspiration to me in all subjects, but especially in maths.

Hi I'm Olly. I'm proud to be Maths Champion this year. I enjoy maths and I hope to help children from all across the school enjoy maths as much as I do. I'm also looking forward to meeting you at some of our parent/carer sessions.

HI I'm Ethan and I'm proud to be working side-by-side with Mr Arthur and all the other Maths Champions. I've enjoyed maths for a few years and I have been working hard so that I can do really well at this role. My sister has helped me get even better at maths.

Hi I'm Solomon and I am proud to be a Maths Champion because I have always loved maths. I hope that I can make you love it as well!

Hi I'm Oliver. I'm proud to be a Maths Champion. I have been excited about doing maths with everyone this year. I'm really looking forward to helping the Year 3s enjoy maths.

Hello my name is Filip. I am proud to be a Maths Champions because I really enjoy helping people with maths.

Hello my name is Leo. Maths is my favourite subject and I'd like the chance to help people.

THE SPROWSTON JUNIOR MATHS ZOO!

Our class maths pets have become quite a hit over the last year or so and they’re back for this term. Each class has a cuddly class maths pet who is sent home with different pupils each week to find out more about maths. Our maths pets come is different shapes and sizes and each class will have a slightly different way of finding out about the maths in your home!

Examples and explanations of maths should be recorded in the class book to show what you’ve been up to! This could be photographs, drawings or even just an explanation of the maths activity you’ve tackled.

Who will come to visit you and what exciting adventures will you get up to?

Our wonderful caretaker, Mr Bird, has a problem and he needs your help. He has been asked to plant 10 trees in five rows so that each row contains 4 trees. How could he do it?

We’d love you to share how you solved this problem for Mr Bird. You can take pictures or write an explanation of how you did it. Bring them in and give them to one of our amazing Maths Champions. You could even email your solution to Mr Arthur so that he can share them with everyone at school.
