December 2022

Friday 9th December, 2022

It has been a fantastic week, and we have a lot of positive memories to reflect upon as we head into the weekend.

Thank you if you came along to support the children at St Cuthbert's. Both events were excellently attended, and I hope you enjoyed them as much as the staff and children did. It was wonderful to be having these types of events again and I've praised all the children in assembly today for how well they did.

Yesterday was the busiest day of the school year so far! We enjoyed having the visitors from Into Opera with us, and it has been nice to hear many children tell us how much they enjoyed the workshops and assemblies. Thank you to those who were able to stay behind after school for the performance. I'm sure you'll agree it was a lovely way to finish the day.

The disco finished off the day yesterday, and I've praised the children again for a lovely atmosphere and great disco. One child said to me this morning 'thank you for such a great party'. My thanks go to Mrs Hartley and Mrs Lewis for organising the event and all the Friends' of school who came along to give their support.

One more week to go before the children can take a break after a long autumn term. I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Kind regards

Matt Walton

Headteacher

Carol Concerts at St Cuthbert's

After three years, it was great to be back at St Cuthbert's church for our Christmas carol concerts. It was standing room only for both the Year 3/4 (Tue) and Year 5/6 (Wed) performances. We were treated to songs, poems, readings and a wonderful tableau from Year 6.

We would like to thank everyone who came and to everyone at St Cuthbert's for hosting us again this year. As many of you will know, Reverend Simon is leaving in the New Year which means this will be his last Christmas with us. We would all like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for all his support of the school during his time in Sprowston. He will be missed by us all.

Arts' Project Day

Yesterday we were treated to a range of activities by a number of Opera singers and musicians, organised by Into Opera, a company which is leading the arts project we are involved in.

The day included two assemblies and some year group workshops, finishing off with an after-school performance. They even played some Christmas music to accompany the Christmas lunches! The project is all about creativity in the curriculum and increasing arts opportunities in the community.

Here's what some of the children thought about it:

"It was really fun and we enjoyed everything" George and Aiden (Year 3)

"I liked joining in with the singing" Sam (Year 4)

"I really enjoyed listening to the piano" Lexi (Year 5)

"I like how all the singers helped us by giving us tips on how to improve" Ruby (Year 6)

As you know, we are working with Into Opera for our opera residency this year. We hope to have more exciting days like this one in the New Year.

Everyone had a great time tucking in to their Christmas dinners this week. There was music, crackers, paper crowns and even some special waiting staff!

Year 6 trip to see Matilda

The feedback from the pupils was that 'Matilda' is an excellent film and they are very excited to be part of a project comparing the film to the stage play with the outcome of putting on their own performance in the summer term. All very exciting! Here are a few thoughts from the Year 6 children:

Megan K - 'I like the character and what she said about her parents.'

Alfie - 'It was so good! The film was amazing, and I loved the story and all the songs.'

Megan D - 'I really enjoyed it, and I'm really excited about the performing part later in the year.'

Marvellous Me

Staff have been busy sending home Marvellous Me comments and badges to let you know what your child has been up to in school. It has been great speaking to children about their Marvellous Me rewards. If you haven't yet done so, please sign up. It's easy to do, and the app is really straightforward to use. You will have been sent an email with log on details. If you haven't received it, or are having problems getting on, please contact the school office.

Winter Wellbeing

The festive season is often associated with feelings of excitement and happiness, but for some it may not always be a positive time.

The shorter days, colder temperatures and the pressures associated with this time of year can impact many people, adults and children alike.

Mentally Healthy Schools have put together some 'Winter Wellbeing' activities to help boost winter wellbeing for children and tools to help them manage their emotions.

You will find them, and a number of other helpful resources, in Wellbeing & mental health page on our school website.
