Dear Parents & Carers

It was lovely to see the Year 4 children enthusiastically going off on their field trip to West Runton this morning. I'm sure they will have had a fantastic day out, and it will, I'm sure, be one of their favourite highlights of the year as school trips usually are!

The government has released a framework for enrichment in schools, and we are self-evaluating ourselves against the new framework. We are proud of many of the opportunities we give the children whilst at SJS, but we are always looking for further ideas and will be reflecting on the opportunities we give the children to enrich their school experience.

It was lovely having parents & family members in school for a coffee and to read with their children this morning. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us today, and we'll put on some more coffee mornings or afternoons later in the year.

Our super office team have been having an awful lot of problems this week with our I.T systems. We have changed our main system, moving to a sister company, but this has caused us no end of trouble and my apologies if it has affected you in any way. We still cannot text the Year 3 parents due to problems beyond our control and continue to work hard to try and ensure all channels are operating smoothly.

The first parents' evening of the year is in the week beginning 19th October; please look out for an invitation very soon. As ever, if you cannot attend on the advertised dates, please speak to us and we will arrange evenings for a different time.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Gardening

It's been a lovely day out in the garden. The children have been working hard this morning, helping Nicola to continue sorting out our new area. They also spotted some ladybird larvae along the way.

Friends' Association

Due to our longstanding chair and vice-chair stepping down from their roles, we would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in putting themselves forward to becoming our new Friends' chair/vice chair or someone who would be happy to be part of a new committee.

Our Friends' Association play an important role in the school community and raise thousands of pounds each year to support the children's school experience.

Please contact the Mrs Fuller in the first instance, in person or by email: officemanager@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk

Social Media

As a school we were early users of social media to promote school events and to showcase everything going on. In recent times, we have stopped using these channels as much, but we are now planning to use them again to celebrate school life at SJS.

Please fill in the quick questionnaire regarding photo permission and we will start posting very soon.

Support Our New STEM Racing Teams!

We are excited to launch our brand-new STEM Racing Club, with four teams preparing to represent our school at the STEM Racing Regional Finals in February.

STEM Racing Primary is an exciting national programme for pupils aged 9 to 11, where teams work together to design, test, build and race their own miniature cars. Along the way, pupils develop valuable skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as teamwork, creativity, problem solving and project management. [stemracing.com]

As part of the competition, teams create their own team identity, prepare presentations, design pit displays and even seek local sponsorship, giving children a real-world experience of working as part of an engineering team. [stemracing.com]

To help our teams succeed, we are looking for support from local businesses, organisations and members of the community. This support could include:

  • Financial sponsorship
  • Advice and mentoring
  • Links to STEM careers and industries
  • Resources or materials
  • Help with team branding and displays

Any support, big or small, would make a huge difference to our young engineers and help provide memorable opportunities for our pupils as they prepare for the regional finals.

If you would be interested in supporting one of our teams, please get in touch with Mr Arthur (deputy@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk).

Joy of Moving with Norwich City CSF

Our Year 5 and Year 6 children have been enjoying taking part in the fantastic Joy of Moving programme, delivered by Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF).

The six-week programme, uses fun and energetic games to encourage children to get active while developing their fitness, teamwork, coordination and confidence. Alongside the physical activities, the children are also learning about nutrition, hydration and the importance of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

We have now completed our first two sessions and the children have really enjoyed getting involved. It has been brilliant to see them working together, trying new activities and, most importantly, having fun while being active!

Thanks again to Norwich City CSF for providing this fantastic opportunity for our children!
