Friday 13th February, 2026

Dear Parents & Carers

It's been quite a busy last couple of weeks in school as you can see from some of the reports below. When we return this theme continues with a busy March ahead of us. Hopefully you received the 'book week' letter yesterday. We look forward to the competitions and the 'dress 'up' day on Friday 6th.

It's been lovely welcoming Year 4 & Year 6 parents into school these past two weeks, and we hope you enjoyed joining us. After half-term, we'll be inviting Year 5 parents in for a learning cafe and to have lunch.

In school this half term we've been really concentrating on improving handwriting and the children practice their joined handwriting in all Literacy lessons. I must say I've seen some good improvement across the school, and we will be continuing to work on this after half term.

You'll see information about a science competition below that the children might like to enter. Mr Arthur also told the children about the return of Sprowston's Got Talent which will take place before the Easter holidays. We look forward to seeing all the preparation for it when we return!

We hope everyone has a good half-term break and we look forward to a busy second half of the spring term.

Kind regards

Matt

Matt Walton, Headteacher

SHIP, Year 4 & Year 6 Parents' Cafés

The SHIP & Year 4 children really enjoyed having their parents & carers in for the cafe and lunch last week. The theme of the Year 4 cafe was maths and times-tables; they enjoyed a variety of games, including cards, bean bag throwing and snakes and ladders.

The Year 6 café this week was based around literacy and particularly reading and spelling, with the children working towards their end of key stage tests. We hope you found the session informative and enjoyed joining us.

Thank you to everyone who was able to come in.

Parents' Evenings

An email was sent out today letting all parents & carers know that parents' evening is open to book. If you do try to book during half-term and you have any problems, please email us: office@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk and we will contact you as soon as possible to book a slot for you.

Children's Mental Health Week - Mon 9th February.

Miss Clark introduced Mental Health week with an assembly on Monday morning. The theme for Children's Mental Health Week 2026 is 'This is My Place', and our aim is to support the systems around children and young people to help them feel they belong.

The children have been discussing what a happy place looks like and what connections they have. We've seen some excellent thoughtful reflections and work this week.

Internet Safety Day -  Wednesday 10th February

Some classes were able to watch the live lesson on Wednesday which focused on Artificial Intelligence and how to use it safely.

AI technology can be really helpful but it's also important to think about how using AI might affect you and other people.

The UK Safer Internet Centre has lots of advice for children on Safer Internet Day on how to use it safely and responsibly.

Here are their top tips:

  • Don't let AI replace your own thinking or creativity.

  • Think about others - AI shouldn't be used to do things that might upset or worry other people.

  • Watch out for signs that something might have been generated by AI. These include something looking too perfect, surprising or just not quite right.

  • Remember that AI makes mistakes and that it can be helpful to double-check information on other websites that you trust.

AI should never replace help and support from people you know and trust.

Always speak to a trusted adult if you're unsure about something AI tells you, or if you need help figuring out if something has been generated by AI.

Bikeability

Some of the Year 6 children had the opportunity to take the Level 2 Bikeabilty course last week and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity. The course is run over 4 days and the children start on the playground before moving onto the local roads for 3 sessions.

The children received their certificates and badges in assembly this morning and reported really enjoying the sessions and learning a lot about bike safety. Well done to them all.

We look forward to repeating Bikeability courses next year.

Science Spring Challenge

Mr Reeds has set the children a challenge to 'Build the Best Boat' from recycling materials. The boats will be tested in a pool after the deadline of Monday 23rd March (the final week before Easter).

There will be 3 separate prizes.

1. Best Design

2. Fastest Boat

3. Which boat can carry the heaviest cargo?

We looK forward to seeing the creative entries. If you have any queries, please see Mr Reeds or email them in, and he will get back to you.

Great Science Time Tour Assembly

We were pleased to be able to have the Science Time Tour assembly in school discovering the inspirational scientists who changed the world, including Charles Darwin, Marie Curie and Mae Jemison.

The assembly was packed with playful storytelling, experiments and plenty of audience participation. The children really enjoyed hearing all about the different scientists.

Here are the views of some children in Wroxham:

Ben 'I thought it was very good'.

Nina 'It was enjoyable and interesting'.

Oscar  'It was very interactive'.

Year 6 STEM Racing Teams Reach the National Finals!

A you may be aware, two of our Year 6 teams have qualified for the STEM Racing National Finals, which will be held at the Magna Science Adcenture Centre in Rotherham at the end of March.

This is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the hard work, creativity and determination of our pupils. Reaching the National Finals is an exciting opportunity for the children to showcase their engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills on a national stage - as well as being live-streamed on YouTube!

To attend the event, each team needs to raise £330 — £230 to cover the cost of the coach travel and £100 for the National Finals entry fee. To help with this, Salhouse will be running fundraising stalls at lunchtime on Friday 27th February.

There will be plenty of fun activities to take part in, including:

  • Penalty shoot-out

  • Guess the name of the toy

  • Human fruit machine

  • Cakes and bakes

  • Sponge and stocks

  • And more!

Prices will start from just 20p, so please do come along and support if you can.

If you are able to offer additional support or would like to help in any way, please contact Mr Arthur at: deputy@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk

Thank you for supporting our teams as they prepare to represent our school at Nationals — we are so proud of them!
