Spring 2026


Happy New Year to Year 3 and 4, we hope you had a restful Christmas break and are ready for a busy but fun term ahead.

Like before, this newsletter has been put together to tell you about our year group, the expectations we have; the main topics we will be covering and to give you a reminder of general day-to-day information.


There has been a change to the Year 3/4 Team:

Martham Class: Mrs Wills and Mrs Connell – Class teachers

Filby Class: Mrs Pope and Mr Connell - Class teachers

Wroxham Class: Mr Ingham and Miss Clark - Class teachers 

Teaching assistants: Mrs Brooks, Mrs Clark, Miss Hall and Mrs Webb


                          Reminders:

Please remember that we use 'Marvellous Me' to communicate with you at home.  We send home important reminders, positive messages and general comments.

If you need a hand, please ask the office team to help you.

Home/School Journal: Children will earn house points for reading at home. Every Monday we expect the journal to come in to school signed by someone at home (with a comment if needed).

Homework: Homework will be given on a Wednesday and will be expected back the following Monday. Children will be given a ‘Times Table Rockstar’, ‘Numbots’ and ‘Stick and Split’ login to practise maths skills at home too.

We will send home spellings to practise in all different ways each week in line with our ‘Read Write Inc’ spelling programme.

You may also be the lucky carer of our Maths’ monkey or crocodile! Please complete some Maths and record your activity in the book sent home.


PE days:

Year 3/4's PE days are Monday and Wednesday (Wroxham), Wednesday and Thursday (Martham) and Monday and Thursday (Filby). Please send children to school in their PE kits (blue/black shorts, navy or white tops). Earrings should not be worn on these days and hair should be tied back.

Equipment:

Children will need: a pencil, ruler, rubber and a sharpener. They may also need coloured pencils and a glue stick. The children only need one pencil case. Additional and replacement stationery is available to purchase from Salhouse class every Monday lunchtime. 

Top tip: LABEL everything!

Curriculum Overview

Here's a taster of our Spring Term..

Where we live: Identifying places near and far to improve geography skills. Identifying counties within the UK.

Ancient Egyptians:  We will be exploring the lives of the Ancient Egyptians, finding out: where they lives, what the pyramids were for, who was Tutankhamun, how they worshipped and what they worshipped and much, much more.

Nine cult Ancient Egyptian figures that ...

Light and Shadow - we will be learning about natural and artificial light sources. Also how a shadow is made and changed. 

Forces - We will be starting our forces topic in Spring 2 by learning that magnets attract and repel. 

Ready Steady Read Together: We will be starting a new reading programme this term which will support the children's fluency and comprehension.

PSHE: We are excited to continue our journey on the Zones of Regulation. This learning will help us understand our emotions and how we can regulate ourselves.

Zones of Regulation – Little Melton Primary School

PE: This term in PE, children will enjoy learning dodgeball, dance and tag rugby, developing teamwork, fitness and skills.

This term we are excited to be visiting Norwich Castle to learn more about the Ancient Egyptians - more to follow.

We will also be inviting Year 4 parents in for a child/parent activity and lunch- watch this space!


PG film permission (2025/26)

At certain times throughout the year, we will be watching films, either to supplement the curriculum or as a reward. 

Some of the films may be rated PG for parental guidance, and as such we need your permission to allow us to watch them in class. 

We assure you that we will watch only age-appropriate material and will make sure that it is suitable for the children in our class.

Please complete the online form to give permission for this.
