Dear Parents & Carers

It was lovely to welcome The Royal Shakespeare company into school this week to lead a workshop with Year 6. We are very much looking forward to the performance of King Lear to all the children on Wednesday morning. We have been part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Schools programme for nearly two years now, and it is a pleasure to have the company performing in the school. We are also welcoming children from another school to see the performance next week.

As part of our continued arts' project and funding - we are having a new sound system installed next week. This will really improve the sound quality in the hall and we look forward to using it with the Musical Theatre production of 'Superstar.'

We enjoyed having parents and carers in school for Parents' Evening last week. If you still haven't managed to catch up with your child's class teacher, please get in touch. The children will be taking assessments in the next few weeks as we lead up to the holidays. This will give us a point-in-time assessment of how they are doing.

Thank you to those of you that were able to brave the weather and attend the Disco Bingo last week. Your support for the school and 'Friends' is much appreciated.

I managed to have a peep at our new building yesterday. The structure is taking shape nicely and it is hoped the roof will be completed before Christmas. It will be exciting to see the project really coming together as we head into the early part of the New Year. Some of the children enjoyed popping over this week to see the progress for themselves.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Norwich Foodbank Christmas Collection

This week, our school Pupil Ambassadors — Zariya, Bia, Jacob, Jessica, Elliott and Nicholas — led a wonderful assembly all about the important work of Norwich Foodbank and how our school community can help this Christmas.

During their recent visit to the Foodbank, the children learned how donations are sorted, weighed and organised before being packed into food parcels. Each parcel is designed to support a person or family for three days, providing essential items as well as a few treats when possible. The pupils also explored the Foodbank’s “secret storeroom”, where extra donations are kept ready for times of greater need.

They even had the chance to help pick and pack a real food parcel themselves, discovering just how much care and organisation goes into supporting local people facing difficult circumstances.

As part of our Christmas tradition, our school is once again collecting items for the Norwich Foodbank Christmas Appeal.

Please send in any items before Tuesday 2nd December.

Even a single tin or packet makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for supporting our community and helping to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter.

Royal Shakespeare Company Workshop Inspires Salhouse Pupils

We were delighted to welcome Nyasha from the Royal Shakespeare Company into school this week for a special drama workshop with children from Salhouse. The session introduced pupils to the world of King Lear, giving them a lively, hands-on taste of one of Shakespeare’s most powerful plays.

Nyasha led the children through a range of engaging drama activities, encouraging them to use their voices, bodies and imaginations to bring the story to life. Pupils enjoyed experimenting with getting into character, thinking about how emotions, posture and movement can help an audience understand a role.

The workshop also gave children the chance to perform short moments from the play, working in groups to explore scenes and relationships between characters.

We are very grateful to Nyasha and the Royal Shakespeare Company for giving our pupils such a memorable and enriching experience.

We are looking forward to welcoming more members of the Royal Shakespeare Company next week when they will be performing King Lear to the whole school.

Positive Noticing Day

Last Wednesday, our school took part in Positive Noticing Day, joining hundreds of other schools across the country in celebrating the power of recognising the good in one another. Although the national date was Wednesday 12th November, Positive Noticing is something we can embrace at any time – and, most importantly, all year round.

Throughout the day, staff and pupils took time to notice and name the positive behaviours, attitudes and actions happening all around us. From kind words and helpful hands to determined effort and quiet perseverance, it was wonderful to see children light up when someone spotted something they had done well.

Positive noticing is a simple idea, but it makes a real difference. By drawing attention to what’s going right, we strengthen relationships and help the behaviours we value to grow. We look forward to spotting many more positives in the weeks to come.

Here are some of the positives that were shared during the day:

"You're a really fast runner." Ben (Year 3)

"You're looking lovely today." Lexi (Year 4)

"You go through the highs and lows and always have a smile on your face." Theo (Year 5)

"Your shoes are really pretty." Grace (Year 6)

Friends' Disco Bingo

Many thanks to those who made it out on a horrible, wet Friday evening to support the friends. There were lots of lovely prizes won across many families! A big thanks to Emma Hartley & Chere Lewis for organising the evening.

Watch out for two further Friends' events leading up to Christmas. Firstly, we have the Christmas Shop on Monday 8th December. This will be followed by the Christmas Disco on Thursday 18th December.

Stone Henge

Y3/4 have been learning about Stone Henge this week and were asked to recreate it using Lego and play dough. Each group explained the different types of stones used and described how it was set out.

Year 3/4 Girls Football

Our Year 3/4 girls took part in a football tournament at Thorpe St Andrew High School, with many of them playing in their first ever competitive match. They showed fantastic effort, enthusiasm, and teamwork throughout every game. We are incredibly proud of their positive attitudes and determination — a big well done to all the girls who represented our school so brilliantly!

UEA

A group of our children visited the UEA Sports Park to take part in a series of adapted games, where they had the chance to try out a range of new activities. They approached every challenge with brilliant enthusiasm, effort, and teamwork. We were delighted to finish 4th overall, with the children proudly receiving their medals. A huge well done to everyone who took part!
