Welcome to Sprowston Junior School Year 3 and welcome back Year 4; we hope you had a restful Summer break and are ready for all of the exciting activities we have planned for you. We have some really great topics that we will be learning over the year and some super trips and other events too…… so here goes!

This newsletter has been put together to tell you about our year group, the expectations we have; the main topics we will be covering and to give you general day-to-day information.

Home/School Journal: Children will earn house points for reading at home. Every Monday we expect the journal to come in to school signed by someone at home (with a comment if needed).

Homework: Homework will be given on a Wednesday and will be expected back the following Monday. Children will be given a ‘Times Table Rockstar’, ‘Numbots’ and ‘Stick and Split’ login to practise maths skills at home too.

We will send home spellings to practise in all different ways each week in line with our ‘Read Write Inc’ spelling programme.

You may also be the lucky carer of our Maths’ monkey or crocodile! Please complete some Maths and record your activity in the book sent home.

PE days:

Year 3/4's PE days are Monday and Wednesday (Wroxham), Wednesday and Thursday (Martham) and Monday and Thursday (Filby). Please send children to school in their PE kits (blue/black shorts, navy or white tops). Earrings should not be worn on these days and hair should be tied back.

Curriculum Corner - Concordia Academy

Curriculum Overview

Here's a taster of our Autumn term...

Our local area: Identifying places near and far to improve geography skills, using the 8 compass points and map skills.

Stone Age: Hunter-gatherer life, being an archaeologist, discovering Stone Age inventions and finding out about Stonehenge.

Healthy living: Nutrition and balanced diet, bones in the skeleton and different types of skeleton.

Rocks and Soils: Identifying different types of rocks and soil, investigating rocks and understanding what is beneath our feet.

PSHE: We are excited to start our journey on the Zones of Regulation. This learning will help us understand our emotions and how we can regulate ourselves.

Zones of Regulation – Little Melton Primary School

This term we hope to have a Stone Age day and an event where you can come in to work alongside your child.

A helpful knowledge organiser will be sent home prior to each main topic. This will help children learn key vocabulary and important facts.

PG film permission (2025/26)

At certain times throughout the year, we will be watching films, either to supplement the curriculum or as a reward.

Some of the films may be rated PG for parental guidance, and as such we need your permission to allow us to watch them in class.

We assure you that we will watch only age-appropriate material and will make sure that it is suitable for the children in our class.

Please complete the online form to give permission for this.

If you have any questions about this, please speak to a member of the Year 6 team.

We are really looking forward to the term ahead and can't wait to get started.

If you have any queries, just ask.....
