Friday 6th June, 2025

Dear Parents & Carers

You will see that there will be a few staff changes in September. It is always sad to see staff moving on, but we are looking forward to welcoming our new members of the team, and they are excited to be joining Sprowston Junior.

You may have noticed that the fences have been taken down at the front of the school and there doesn't seem to be much building work going on! We are still awaiting the final go ahead for the new SHIP building. It is now hoped that the work will finally get going very soon.

We have a busy calendar ahead with various events. A letter will be emailed out next week regarding the Sports Days. We will once again be inviting parents to have a picnic with their child after the sports mornings.

Next Friday we will be having a non-uniform day to support the Friends of school with 'tombola' prizes for the Friends' BBQ & fĂȘte. Our thanks to them for their continued efforts including another successful event this week, the 'Father's Day Shop.'

Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Year 6 trip to London!

Year 6 had a fantastic post-SATs trip to London for a workshop at the famous 'Pineapple Studios' followed by a trip to see Wicked, ahead of their own performance of 'The Wizard of Oz'.

The day began very early with a 6am start, and they firstly headed for Pineapple Studios in London where they had a workshop with some, practising dance moves and singing some of the songs from 'Wicked'. After that, they ate lunch on the bus while they travelled across London before taking their seats to watch the performance. After a fantastic show, they headed for home and were back in Norwich just after 9pm - a long day, but I'm sure a very memorable one!

It was amazing. I had never ever seen something so exciting! It was worth the three and a half hour trip. I personally really liked the way the massive metal dragon moved up and down. Overall, it was absolutely an amazing experience and I would one hundred per cent go again. I give it 10/10.

Hayleigh

I really took liked it when the dragon moved and the ONE SHORT DAY song. I thought it was really fun to do all the dance moves and the workshop people were very kind. It was so much fun on the bus as well.

Karate Sessions

Before half term, we enjoyed welcoming ... into school to give all children some karate taster sessions. The children enjoyed trying something which was new to many foi them and hopefully it might be a new activity that some of them will pursue in the future.

Year 3 & 4 visit Sculthorpe Moor

Year 3 & 4 enjoyed two fantastic days at Sculthorpe Moor. The visit included a number of sessions run by Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The activities were a habitat walk, pond dipping, mini-beasting and sketching.

Here's some thoughts about the trip:

I liked mini-beast hunting, pond dipping and the nature walk because I saw many insects I didn't know existed. The people were kind and helpful.

Kylo

First we did some sketching and we saw 2 woodpeckers on the bird feeder. Next we went on a habitat walk and we saw a great tit and some dragonflies. Then it was time for lunch! After lunch, we went mini-beat hunting and then pond dipping.

Elijah

First we went on a habiatat walk with Victoria and I saw a great tit, a blue tit, ducks and lots more. We saw a bird feeder and a cockerel underneath. Next, we went mini-beasting and Elicia and I spotted a snail, a snail's shell, a millipede and much more. It was a lot of fun!

Phoebe

I was really excited to go and we went for a nature walk and on a mini-beast hunt. I sketched an owl and a dove I saw on a bird feeder.

Attendance

We enter the final term with an overall attendance level of 93.8% which is below the national average. Hopefully we can boost this to over 94% before the end of the school year.

We have 25% of children with an attendance level of under 93% which means they have had more than 8 days off this year. We understand that there are sometimes good reasons why children may not be at school but we are striving for improved overall attendance and will continue to offer support to ensure that all children are attending school as much as possible.
