HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

I think we all knew deep down that the first week of term was going to be a scorcher! With back-to-school nerves and coping with the heat, the children have been brilliant this week, and we look forward to a successful term.

In the year group newsletters that you will receive next week, you will get details of the curriculum for your child this term. We continue to work hard to keep building the curriculum and we really hope your child enjoys their learning across all the different subject areas.

I hope you were able to read the letter sent last week in regard to Covid rules and regulations. If you do have any further queries, please get in contact.

We are determined that this year will be as near to normal as possible, and it has certainly started that way. We look forward to lots of enjoyable events throughout the year and to the school community feeling like one again.

Well done to all for a great first week back.

Enjoy the weekend.

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Attendance

An attendance letter was sent home by email this week. It is important that your child attends every day and that if they cannot due to illness, we are made aware. Please make sure you phone or email the school office to let us know the reason your child is absent. If we do not hear from you by midday of a second day of absence, we will need to do a home visit for safeguarding reasons; to make sure we have checked that everything is okay.

4I have been doing some freeze frames this week, looking at situations where they can support one another and show they are following our 3 school rules of 'Ready, Respectful & Responsible'.

Library

We have invested considerable sums of money in upgrading the library and adding new books. Last year we had many books go missing and get damaged. We will be working with the children to make sure that the books are looked after and would ask that you help with this at home too. If a child loses a book or damages a book deliberately, we may ask for help towards the replacement costs.

Accelerated Reader

We will soon be sending out a link from which you will be able to see any books your child is reading on our Accelerated Reader system and how well they have done on the linked quiz. This will enable you to have the conversations with your children about the books they are reading and help you to see how they are getting on. As ever, we are happy for the children to take Accelerated Reader books home with them or to read another book at home. If they have read a book at home and would like to quiz on it, all they have to do is check it is on the system and then use the link to quiz. These links can be found on our school website.

Check if a book is on the AR system: AR Bookfinder

Clubs

The clubs email was sent out yesterday. We held back until the start of the autumn term, so we could check that we would still be okay to have mixed year group clubs. We're delighted that we are able to. Please fill in the online form as soon as possible if your son or daughter is interested. For some clubs (particularly where they are provided by an outside provider or resources are required) we are asking for a small payment to help us put the clubs on. We have tried to keep costs to a minimum.

Computer Room

We're delighted that our new computer room is nearly ready to use. The space is much better than previously and will improve computing lessons in the school. As well as the computing room, each year group has a Chromebook trolley to themselves which further enhances our ICT provision and we are well-equipped to support the use of computing across the curriculum.

Playground

Please can we remind all parents/carers that we would prefer the trim trail isn't used before school and that bikes and scooters are not used in the playground. Ball games are not allowed before school either. Thank you for your help.

PE Kit

We are sorry that there has been a delay in adding navy PE t-shirts to the Price & Buckland website. They should appear soon. We are also looking at the possibility of adding navy hoodies that would be an alternative to a tracksuit top through the winter months. We'll let you know when they are on the website.

Please can we remind all parents/carers that we have asked for white or plain navy t-shirts and plain navy or black tracksuits.
