Year 3/4 Newsletter

Autumn 2024

Welcome to Year 3/4

Welcome to Sprowston Junior School Year 3 and welcome back Year 4; we hope you had a restful summer break and are ready for all of the exciting activities we have planned for you. We have some really great topics that we will be learning over the year and some super trips and other events too…… so here goes!

This newsletter has been put together to tell you about our year group, the expectations we have; the main topics we will be covering and to give you general day-to-day information.

The Year 3/4 Team:

Martham Class: Mrs Wills and Miss Howse – Class teachers

Filby Class: Mrs Connell and Miss Howse - Class teachers

Wroxham: Mr Ingham and Miss Clark - Class teachers

Teaching assistants: Mrs Clarke, Mrs Blazer, Mrs Magee ,Mrs Webb and Miss Read

At Sprowston Junior we use 'Marvellous Me' to communicate with you at home.  We send home important reminders, positive messages and general comments.

Please sign up to receive Marvellous Me messages so that you do not miss out!

There is also a useful video which will give you an idea of what Marvellous Me is all about. For more information, have a look at the parent walk through information.

If your child is in Year 4 and you used Marvellous Me last year the log on details will remain the same, so there is no need to reinstall the app.

We look forward to sending the first messages home.

Home/School Journal: Children will earn house points for reading at home (one for up to 3 times a week, two for 5 times a week). Every week we expect the journal to come in to school signed by someone at home (with a comment if possible).

Homework: Homework will be given on a Wednesday and will be expected back the following Monday. Children will be given logins to access maths games at home too - these can be found in the home/school journal.

We will send home spellings to practise in all different ways each week in line with our ‘Read Write Inc’ spelling programme.

You may also be the lucky carer of Martham's Maths’ monkey - Chimpanthree, Filby's Maths' crocodile, Mildred or Wroxham's Maths' Monkey, Marvin.  If you get to take these home, please complete some maths with them and record your activity in the book sent home.

PE days:

Martham: Wednesday and Thursday.

Filby: Monday and Friday

Wroxham: Monday and Wednesday

Please send children to school in their PE kits (blue/black shorts, navy or white tops). Earrings should not be worn on these days and hair should be tied back.

Curriculum Overview

Autumn

We start off our year using a series of picture books to teach us PSHE skills and our school's values.

Ancient Greeks: Ancient Greek Olympics, Theatre, Democracy, Greek Gods and Goddesses and myths and legends.

Europe: Identifying and learning about different countries and capital cities within Europe.

Animals including humans: Identifying and labelling bones in the human skeleton and learning about vertebrates and invertebrates.

Teeth, nutrition and health: Identifying different types of teeth and learning how to look after them.

This term we hope to host our very own Ancient Greek day. Details to follow. We also hope to invite parents/carers in to have a look at all our learning.

A helpful knowledge organiser will be sent home prior to each main topic. This will help children learn key vocabulary and important facts.

We are really looking forward to the term ahead and can't wait to get started.
