HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Mental Health Awareness Week's theme this week has been 'together with nature'. We've had some excellent discussions in assemblies about what we enjoy doing outside and after such a long and difficult winter - it's lovely to hear the children excited about being outside and enjoying sports, walks, caring for animals and plenty enjoying gardening with parents and family members! Hopefully a long summer is in front of us, and we can all enjoy the things in life which make it so wonderfully varied and vibrant.

Our school covid risk assessment will be remaining virtually the same for the next month or so due to the national guidelines for schools barely changing. We do feel that we are able to make one change at the moment and that is to say that masks are not needed on the school playground. If you feel that you would still like to wear one then please do. We hope there is enough space for everyone to socially distance, and we do thank you for helping us to keep our families as safe as we possibly could over the past months of the pandemic.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Mental Health Awareness Week (10th - 16th May)

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week we have been looking at how we can look after our mental health. In class and during assemblies we have discussed the importance of staying mental well and have shared some top tips in how we can achieve this. To help us we have used some of the wonderful resources on the Mental Awareness Week website. We have also put some information about mental health and wellbeing in the 'Wellbeing' section of our school website.

National Numeracy Day - Wednesday 19th May 2021

Wednesday 19th May was National Numeracy Day. The aim was to build the nation’s number confidence and skills by providing a day of live events, free activities and fun!

The National Numeracy Challenge is a free and easy-to-use website you can use to improve your confidence with numbers. You can use the Challenge on your phone, tablet or home-computer. Save your progress as you go - no timer means you can dip in and out in your own time.

All you have to do to join in is sign up at:

Using social media

There have been a few issues involving children not using social media sites safely recently. We have spoken to the children and have put some web links, clips and advice in the 'Stay Safe Online' section of our school website which you might find useful. If you have any concerns about your child using social media safely please let us know.

Cyber Security Safety in Years 5 and 6

Years 5 and 6 will be finding out about how to stay 'Cyber Safe' when a member of the Norfolk and Suffolk Cyber Intelligence team visits us in the next few weeks.

Year 5 Save the Children

Year 5 were able to have a meeting with a member of the 'Save the Children' team on Tuesday afternoon and they were able to explain how they had raised such a fantastic amount by presenting posters. They also wrote poems about the regugee situation and shared many facts they have learnt. They asked many excellent questions about the charity which helped them understand what their money will be able to buy in Syria to help the child refugees. We were proud with how the Year 5's represented the school. Well done!

Car Park

Please can we issue another reminder about not pulling in or parking in the school car park unless you have prior permission to do so. Children from both schools walk across the car parks, and they are already full of staff cars

Year 3 Egyptian Fact files

The year 3 teachers were very impressed with the Year 3 children's fact files this week.  We hope they are enjoying learning all about the historical period, and they certainly came up with many fantastic facts! Have a look at the Year 3 fact files and other wonderful work on the website: Year 3 Work

Blogging Project

The project is going very well, and we've been pleased with how the children have got on with their blogging. If you haven't had a look yet — please look at the blogs on the school website and leave a comment. You'll find the school blogs here: SJS School Blogs
